1924-1928
1924 – Richmond
Richmond VA was a long way from family. And while his work was interesting, Betty was no longer teaching school and needed more of his time. Her pregnancy and Billie’s birth were followed by a need for help from her mother. And the summers in Virginia were hot and humid and they soon were talking about moving back North.
1925 – Rutherford
The move in August 1925 to stay with Betty’s mother in Rutherford was short-lived. It was nice to be back in New Jersey, close to family, and before long Howard was born on January 29, 1926 in Happensack Hospital. But the commute to New York City each day became tedious to Horace. After much consternation, he found an opening with a small department store in Trenton NJ.
1926 – Trenton
August 1926, when Howard was seven months old, they moved from Rutherford to 712 Riverside Ave, Trenton NJ.
